Carpet Museum Conversion

Project Details:

  • Project Name: Carpet Museum Conversion
  • Client: Carpet Museum Trust
  • Value: £1.13 million
  • Location: Kidderminster, Worcestershire

Project Description

The project involved the conversion of the existing Grade II Listed 19th-century Stour Vale Mill into an interactive museum environment dedicated to the carpet industry. The display of the museums’ collection of machinery, artefacts, photographs, archives and libraries is now spread over two floors in an area of 14,000 sq. feet at the mill – originally constructed for carpet making and until recently forming part of the premises of Woodward Grosvenor carpet manufacturers.

A Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) grant enabled the full internal refurbishment of ground and first floors, a new & lettable office space, display and storage areas and new mezzanine floor and gallery display facility to be carried out. This innovative project involved the community and offered educational opportunities for people of all ages in the Kidderminster district which The Trust hopes will encourage the growth of tourism in the area.
