  • Project Name: Heartlands Hospital New Diabetes Centre and MIDRU Block
  • Client: Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust

  • Location: Birmingham

Project Description

The project involved the construction of a 2 storey building to form this flagship Diabetes and MIDRU Centre of Excellence in the UK, which includes specialist clinics, ward areas and exceptional education and training facilities. The project required stringent planning and execution to control the joint access and egress for hospital staff, patients, visitors and construction activities. This was overcome by installing site specific traffic management, hoardings and barriers and the employment of dedicated security gate men. Careful co-ordination with hospital staff and neighbours was also required in carrying out road alterations and service diversions out of hours. Environmentally friendly features include ground source heat pumps and Brise Soleil on external elevations to eliminate glare and help heat recovery.

"A tight site, in an awkward position in the midst of a car park under pressure, it has a professional and organised air. Efforts obviously continue to liaise fully with the hospital. The site presents a neat and tidy impression to the visitor."
