Truro School Extension and First Floor Gallery

Project Details:

  • Project Name: Truro School Extension and First Floor Gallery
  • Client: Truro School
  • Value: £771,000
  • Location: Truro, Cornwall

Project Description

The project involved the demolition of a single storey building and workshop, the installation of new switch room and a new extension to the central courtyard with a first floor gallery. An enclosed courtyard at the rear of the school was identified as the location for an extension to the Dining Room which resulted in the site being surrounded by a 4 metre high retaining wall with only a small access way to the site area, which gave major access issues during the contract. This was managed by the building of a temporary access. The construction included glulam beams, together with steel and concrete circular columns. The roofs were particularly interesting being a combination of zinc pitched surfaces and green flat roof areas.

"I thought I should say thank you for the work carried out over the summer at the prep school. The Headmaster came up to me and said "it was better than they ever imagined” and the school staff are now calling it "the restaurant". In short the school are absolutely delighted and the quality of the work is excellent. Again, many thanks for your efforts on what was a very fast project and I look forward to working with the Shaylor Group again in the future."
