Framework Director Crowned ‘Achiever of the Year’

We are delighted to announce that Framework Director Martin Chambers has been named ‘Achiever of the Year’ at the prestigious Constructing Excellence 2014 National Awards held in London on Friday 14th November.

Having previously taken the same title at the West Midlands ceremony held in April, Martin progressed to the finals of the National Awards. In the final run-off Martin faced stiff competition from other regional winners including Steve Baker, Group Manager of Construction Management Services at East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Osborne’s Fred Mills, a thought leader in Building Information Modelling (BIM) and creator of collaborative platform BIM One Million.

Presented for “outstanding performance or influence by an individual who has been inspirational in the opinion of the sector peer group during the past 12 months”, Martin received the award due to his “leading role in the successful repositioning of Shaylor Group plc as one of the country’s most sought-after SME contractors”.

Martin’s career includes leading some of the region and country’s most prolific construction businesses and projects, many of which have had a transformational impact on both the West Midlands economy and the wider construction industry. Having entered the industry as a sponsored trainee with George Wimpey, he has gone on to oversee and manage a number of companies, major projects and national programmes of work.

Martin also gained recognition for having played a pivotal role in the CIOB, being its Global President in 2007/8, being a former Chair of Birmingham’s Family Housing Association and director of WMCCE and its successor organisation MCCE. Martin also has strong links with academia being a governor of the University of Wolverhampton, external examiner with Aston University and a visiting professor at the University of Westminster.

Speaking of his success Martin commented “I am honoured to receive such a coveted award, particularly considering the calibre of the other finalists. Having a genuine passion for improving the construction industry nationally has obviously been a key factor of my success and I will endeavour to continue making a positive difference through my various roles and the invaluable support provided by Shaylor Group”.
